N.A.G.A. 2006 Instructor Of The Year At The #1 Martial Arts School In Florida ...

And Earn Bragging Rights To Being A Student Of A World-Class
Expert And Champion ...

Dear Prospective Student,

My name is Pablo Popovitch, and if you're searching for a professional training center to master the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Gracie Jiu-Jitsu), Submission Wrestling, Kick boxing, Mixed Martial Arts, Wrestling and such self-defense programs … then this will be the most important message you've ever read in your life.

Here’s why: For the past 10 years, my father, Grand Master Jorge Popovitch (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu 7th Degree) and I have been producing a crop of students who have gone on to win many national and international titles. (Ever heard about the Popovitch team?)

But that’s not all. Here are the THREE major reasons why you’ll want to grab a spot in our program at the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Center:

  • You get superior training from World Class Championship instructors. My father and I have over 50 plus years of combined experience in Jiu-Jitsu and were trained directly under the Gracie family, FOUNDERS of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
  • You join a program custom designed for your level of experience and age. We have developed a systematic beginners program guided by a training curriculum that is the secret of our success. You’ll be shocked to know the number of schools that have NO curriculum and NO beginners program.
  • We have the #1 Grappling Team in Florida. Yes, we won the Team award of the most prestigious Grappling tournament in the USA.
NAGA Grappling Championship July 21, 2007

The Popovitch Team recently competed and won first place in the N.A.G.A. championship in both the NO-GI and GI categories.

This is solid PROOF that the training students receive at the BJJ Center in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida is second to none. The NAGA Championships is the most prestigous Grappling tournament in the USA.

All modesty aside, you’ll not find another Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) school within a thousand miles radius from us, which even come close to our standards. I invite you to look for yourself, because you just won’t find one.

I have been …

Ranked #1 In The World!

Winning the 2007 USA Trials
Winning the 2007 USA Trials against one of the most awarded competitors of all times, Saulo Ribeiro.

But I didn’t get there overnight. Let me just share with you a few steps along the journey to becoming one of the greatest BJJ champions in the world.

I was born in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil and became involved in BJJ at the early age of 5 years. My first instructors were the Machado brothers, Rigan, Carlos and Jean Jaques at the Barra Gracie School.

At age 8, I entered my first tournament and defeated Carlinhos Gracie in the finals. He and I were really good friends, but we were very competitive on the mats. I was always close to the Gracie family because my father was their good friend. My aunt actually married Crolin Gracie, so the friendship paid off in more ways than one!

When I was 15 my family moved from Brazil to Florida but I continued to study BJJ under Carlson Gracie. My training partners were all members of the legendary Carlson Gracie Team and members of the current Brazilian top team.

I was introduced to collegiate-style wrestling while attending high school in Florida. Because of my superior skills at grappling, I attracted several offers from colleges to continue at the highest level of the sport. But I chose instead to continue with my first love, BJJ.

While pursuing a degree in international business at University of Florida, I wrestled with college-level guys and competed in open collegiate tournaments, winning a title at the Florida open collegiate state championship.

Pablo Popovitch 2006 Instructor of the Year

Of all the titles that I hold my proudest moment came when I competed in the 2007 World Jiu-Jitsu Championship. The World Jiu-Jitsu Championship is the most prestigious sport grappling tournament in the world.

The tournament consists of 5 weight classes with the best grapplers in the world per weight class. I proved again to be one of the best grapplers in the world by winning the Championship and becoming a World Jiu-Jitsu Champion.

That was the highlight of a career spanning 20 years and more than 250 victories at grappling submission events.

The same discipline and dedication I bring to the sport is the same that I demand of my students. And that's why my students succeed in competitions and in their personal development as well.

According to The Director of The Institute of Human Performance ...

JC Santana - Director of Institute of Human Performance"Pablo Popovich is the complete package when it comes to being a combat professional!

I have had the pleasure of being associate with Pablo as his strength and conditioning coach and as a student of combat sports. Pablo brings his professionalism, knowledge and physical abilities to the mat 100% of the time; as an athlete and a instructor.

As an athlete, few can rival his dedication, discipline and physical abilities. As a coach and instructor, few bring the systematic development approach Pablo employs in this Jiu-Jitsu and Submission grappling academy. I consider it a pleasure and great honor to be considered his friend, coach, and student."

"This is the pinnacle of my martial arts career."

Master Chris Chard
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt
Brazilian Jiu Jistu Center of Ohio

I began seriously studying the martial arts when I was in college in the 1980”s. I started in Tae Kwon Do and eventually earned a black belt. When I saw tapes of the first UFC, I realized that I had more to learn. I spent the next couple of years kickboxing and stick fighting until a career move landed me in Ft. Lauderdale in March, 1997.

I remember arriving on a Sunday and one of the first things I did, even before I unpacked my car, was look in the yellow pages for a BJJ school. As fate would have it, my apartment was 2 blocks south of Grandmaster Jorge and Master Pablo Popovitchs’ first school in Pembroke Pines. The very next day, I went to the academy and tried a class. After that first class I knew I was at home. I have been with Grandmaster Jorge and Master Pablo Popovitch ever since.

I watched the academy evolve from a small group of students, to the creation of the Team Popovitch competition team in 1999, to the huge organization, with 2 affiliate schools in Cleveland, Ohio and Louisville, Kentucky, that it is today. Most impressive though, was witnessing the evolution of Master Pablo Popovitch from a 16 year old purple belt to the world class grappler and instructor that he is today.

No one trains harder that Master Pablo Popovitch and his accomplishments on the mat speaks for themselves. But, best of all, he is one of the premier Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructors in the business. Master Pablo Popovitch's dedication to his students is evident by the accomplishments and successes that they have had, both on and off the mat. To train with Master Pablo Popovitch is to be a part of something special.

On August 16. 2006, Grandmaster Jorge and Master Pablo Popovitch awarded me my Black Belt. I am truly humbled to be their first American student to receive such recognition. This is the pinnacle of my martial arts career. I thank both of them for all the years of mentoring, instruction, and inclusion into their family.

"Never Found A More Effective And Enjoyable BJJ Training Center!"

Michael Zanetti
Financial Advisor

My name is Michael Zanetti. I have been training in various martial arts for a number of years. Never have I found the training as effective, satisfying and enjoyable as I do at the BJJ Center. My rationale is three-fold:

#1 – Pablo Popovitch
There are a lot of instructors who lack a proven track record of their capabilities, resulting in a need to preach from afar about their accolades, systems and skills. With Pablo, he doesn’t need to talk the talk, he walks the walk. Pablo actually has won the tournaments and championships, and the result is a high level of confidence in himself and his system.

How is this reflected in the class? To begin, the class is far more informal than most martial arts classes. There is no need for false displays of respect; Pablo deserves respect and gets it. Moreover, Pablo actually trains with the class, often pulling students aside and training with them individually. There is no need for false bravado and preaching from afar; Pablo believes in himself and his system.

The overall result: a prime learning environment with a top level instructor.

#2 – Class structure
Because of the informality of the class, the students share a tremendous amount of information with each other. Similar belt students share intricacies of techniques and variations with one another. Higher belt students help lower belts on an individual basis improve on their technique. This builds a high level of camaraderie among the students in what could be a very competitive environment.

BJJ itself is very fluid, with countless variations and intricate movements. An environment where techniques can be openly discussed, improved on and practiced creates an accelerated learning curve for all parties involved.

#3 – The focus on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
With the recent popularity of UFC/NHB-style fighting, many traditionally “one system” schools have begun cross-pollinating, teaching various styles and systems. The result: being average at a number of different things.

The philosophy at the BJJ Center is different. As Pablo has expressed a number of times, his goal with the BJJ Center is to become the best BJJ school in the country. One focus, one goal: being the best at Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

With things running the way they are, don’t be surprised to see the Popovitch team at #1!

"I'm Fortunate To Have A World Class Jiu-Jitsu Trainer"

Andre Zuniga
Xerox Technician

"I have trained Karate for over 10 years, and I thought it was a very complete Martial Art until I found out about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I have been training for over 6 months now and I could say I fell in love with Martial Arts again.

Not only I am lucky to have found about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu sooner than later but I also am very fortunate to have a World Class Instructor and Fighter teaching me. It blows my mind that I can actually train with him everyday."

"Lost 10 lbs And My Energy Level Increased Significantly!"

Sean McCoyOffice
Manager-Lighting Distributor/
Professional Singer/Announcer/Voice-over talent

"Hi, my name is Sean McCoy, and I have been attending classes at The BJJC since September, 2005. Although I am a new student in comparison to many others at the BJJC, I have been excessively impressed with the professionalism and patience of the instructors. The instructors give you personal attention, and seem genuinely interested in helping you meet your own individual goals. I learn a lot of new things in every class, and the content of each class is fresh, interesting, educational and fun. In addition, the students attending the BJJC come from various walks of life, and are of every age, color and ethnicity." I am 31 years old and my personal goal is to lose weight, raise my confidence level, and increase my overall level of fitness. In the last month I have already lost over 10 pounds, and my energy level has significantly increased. I look forward to the classes I attend each week, because I have a feeling that the instructors genuinely care that I am participating. If your personal goals are similar to mine, you need to call today to make an appointment for a personal interview with an Instructor."

"The Instructors Are Top Notched!"

Ed Paskin
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Center Green Belt/ Financial Advisor

I have recently begun training at the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Center. When i realized that I could actually learn from Master Pablo Popovitch himself, i jumped at the opportunity to join his school. Although I have trained in other areas of Martial Arts over the years, I have never learned anything nearly as effectivy as Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. A little research on Google will tell you all that you need to know about Master Popovitch. Master Popovitch is quite simply one of the most respected and very best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitors in the world, and a fantastic intructor for people of all ages. His others instructors are top notch as well. I believe that a school can only be as good as it instructors, and thats why im truly honored to be part of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Center. You can search the entire United States and only find a handful of school like the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Center. Fort lauderdale is truly fortunate to have an instructor with the qualification and character of Master Popovitch.

Note To Parents

If you are a parent looking to instill personal discipline, confidence, focus, total fitness and self-defense abilities in your kids, then you’ll be glad to know that our training system has been designed to help kids stay motivated and feel good about their progress.

Our instructors have such critical influence on the children that each one is required to have specific training in the skills of goal setting and motivation. That’s why all our instructors are fully trained and certified to work with children of all ages.

During the first private orientation class, the instructor will get to know the family and the student. He or she will prepare the student for our regular classes, and at the end as a parent you’ll get the first of your child's evaluations covering many physical and mental areas.

As your child starts training with us, he or she will have several learning aids to help them at home and at The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Center, including school manual.

We use a motivating patch system that rewards your child’s progress from improved self-discipline to doing chores without being asked. We also recognize academic achievement and attendance.

Regular classes are taught in an atmosphere of discipline and sincere guidance. We want each student to have fun but not "goof off" fun. Classes are always upbeat and exciting.

Students are aware of our high expectation of them but we know this is not military school. We want our students leave feeling they have worked hard and accomplished something.

We strive to make the hour our students spend with us the best, most exciting hour of the day.

Grades and outside behavior are extremely important to the BJJ Center. Students understand that the byproducts of martial arts training – discipline, respect, humility, and focus – should to be applied to every other area of their lives.

WARNING !!

Let me just give you some friendly advice about choosing a Jiu-Jitsu school, especially as a beginner. You should not choose a school simply because they have the words “Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu” painted on their sign. You have to be very selective.

In fact, you should NEVER join a school or BJJ program unless it meets the following FIVE criteria:

  1. Their instructors are qualified and have proof to show that they have reached a high level in the art. Are the instructor’s full-time or part time? That’s a big clue there. Remember if you want to be the best you have to learn from the best.
  2. The school MUST have a written curriculum they can show you. You’ll be shocked to know how many schools don’t follow a step-by-step program so neither the teacher nor the student knows where they are going and how fat along they are. Surprising but true.
  3. The school must produce winners. The Good Book says by their fruits you shall know them. What are the fruits? The students the school produce of course. Ask yourself, Have this school produced any national champs or winning teams? (And look out for schools that show off champions they did NOT train—these students joined the school AFTER they won a competition!)
  4. The school should allow you to set your own goals whether you just want to be physically fit, learn self defense or train for the competitive level. You don’t want to be forced into any sparring if you don’t want to.
  5. The prices are NOT unbelievably low. Remember that you usually get the quality you pay for. You can’t expect to eat caviar on a Burger King budget. These “bargain” price schools usually have dirty facilities, unqualified instructors or instructors who cannot speak English and don’t offer an advanced program.

Of course you want to see clean and well-kept surroundings that you should expect from any professional school. You don’t have to settle for anything less.

"I have had the greatest time training under Master Pablo Popovitch at The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Center. It has benefited my game as a competitive grappler 100 times over. I started wrestling at young age of 5 and I have been competing for over 21 years. Not only have I learned the ground game but have improved my takedowns due to the emphasis put on training stand up attacks and defense.

Since I started with Master Popovitch I’ve won 4 NAGA Advanced Championship and 1 runner up. My grappling record is 13-1 over that time period.

I know what great training is and I have trained with the best, I highly recommend training With Master Popovitch, he will take your grappling game to another level."

"I have been training with Master Popovitch for 3 years and he is one of the best in the World, I have seen beat a lot of top guys and that motivates me a lot. Since I started training with him my game went through the roof, I am just a purple belt but many of the Black Belts that come to train with Master Popovitch are very impressed my skills.

On my last tournament I was able to tap guys in my division under 2 minutes, and at no time I was ever in danger of losing any of my matches.

He is not only a great fighter and instructor but he is also someone that always guides me in the right direction in life and training. He is the best in the world and I am blessed to train with him."

"I have been training Brazilian jiu-jitsu with Master Popovitch for a little over 3 year. Having trained stand up Martial Arts for many years, I realized I knew nothing about Grappling so I began training under Master Popovitch. My goals were to train hard and become a champion.

Not only I have achieve my goals but I feel like I surpassed hem under the instruction of Master Popovitch. I can now compete with many Black Belts even tough I’m still a Purple belt, what impressed me the most is that during my visit to Brazil a couple months ago I had a chance to train at different schools and I realized how much better Master Popovitch instruction was, I felt especial.

There is no other instructor on the planet that I would rather train with, Master Popovitch is the Best!!! His techniques are priceless the Grappling Game, I consider it an honor and I find myself blessed to train with one of the Best in the World."

"I have been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for over 8 years and I can say that I never seen anyone as good as Master Popovitch. Even though I only been training under Master Popovitch for 6 months I have seen an improvement of my grappling game like I have ever seen before.

Not only that but I also learned to train without the gi, in which I never trained before. I am so happy that I am training under him, people don’t realize how rare it is to find a world level instructor like he is."

Randy Cupples
Chief Compliance Officer

Hi everyone! My name is Randy Cupples and I am 56 years old and it is June 14, 2006 and I have been a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Center student for a little over six months. On January 31, 2005 I had triple by-pass surgery. As I recuperated from the open heart surgery I was desperately looking for ways to change my lifestyle. After the operation my pulse rate was around 80 - 83 beats per minute and my blood pressure continually recorded in the high range.

After my operation I was thinking about asking my doctor to put me on medicine to lower my blood pressure but was worried this would not lead me to the quality of life that I wanted. I decided to find an alternative to taking blood pressure medicine and any related drugs.

I noticed the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Center and subsequently discussed my health situation with Master Pablo Popovitch and Instructor Jay Moncaio. With their concerns that I should not push myself to hard, I started classes in December 2005. Physical change is never easy but I was determined to improve my health. Pablo and Jay, as they will with any student, watched over me and monitored my progress to ensure that I did not "over exercise" or "burn out" on the training as I was in really poor physical shape.

Because of the encouraging comments and helpful direction from Master Popovitch and Jay Moncaio (and so many other students) I have stayed with their training program and truly improved my health! My pulse rate is now between 60-63 beats per minute and my blood pressure has dropped into the low to normal range for the first time in many years. I have to say this is the best training I have ever experienced.

The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Center training methods have literally changed the quality of my life!

"My kids and I have been training in BJJ under Master Popovitch for almost a year. In that year some amazing things have happened to us. For one, I have lost over 80 lbs. I went from having high blood pressure, sleep apnea, insomnia, and always feeling tired to being healthy and in the best shape I’ve been in literally two decades.

My kids have both also had a significant improvement in their physical fitness level. All three of us enjoy training in BJJ and have a great time in each class. What I as a parent especially like about the training is that kids are allowed to train at their own pace. The emphasis is on having fun, and that keeps the kids interested. As the kids have progressed, it has given them more confidence, too.

The instructors at the BJJ center are world class, and they go out of their way to make sure you are learning all you want to learn. I’ve also found that senior students are eager to help out and give you tips as well. I highly recommend training at the BJJ Center, you won’t regret it."

"I have been training Brazilian jiu-jitsu for almost 8 years now, and I could say that I' ve never trained with anyone as good as Master Pablo Popovitch, he is the "ultimate grappler", his wrestling skills are unbelievable ,and his Brazilian jiu-jitsu is amazing. He is more than a black belt, he is a "Brazilian jiu-jitsu master" that's why he is the number one grappler in U.S and among the 3 best fighters in his weight class in the entire world, he is the one who can teach you high level and real Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu"

There are many reasons to join the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Center. If you are looking for an intense workout, it is one of the best full-body workouts around. I have tried other martial arts, and nothing compares to the intensity found in Jiu-Jitsu. Other martial arts practice moves that may never be used in a real situation. Everything we learn in class is immediately tried in a real-life sparring situation. Jiu-Jitsu is also an intense mental workout. Similar to a game of chess, every move has a counter-move. Two people of different size can spar, and it is the one who has the better technique who will be the winner, even if they are not the bigger or stronger of the two.

I believe the best reason to join the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Center is for the opportunity to train with one of the best competitors in the world. Many instructors may teach a martial art simply because they have been involved with it for a long time. Not only has Master Popovitch studied Jiu-Jitsu for most of his life, but he has competed in and won numerous tournaments. Other places may offer instruction in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but they may not have an instructor with the skill and experience of Master Popovitch. His staff of instructors are also well-qualified. The instructors and a lot of the students are some of the best competitors around. Everybody there is very friendly, and always willing to help.
