Brazilian jiujitsu position No Gi -Hook Sweep to Foot Lock/Heel Hook!!!

This time I am going to go over one of the most effective foot lock/heel hook submissions from the guard.

This position is great because it gives you the opportunity to finish your opponent with the basic foot lock or a more advance position, the heel hook. Also keep in mind that this position can be very effective for MMA as well. By keeping your opponent in a closed distance it limits his ability to strike, giving you a perfect situation where the submission can be applied.

– Start in the closed guard controlling your opponent’s wrists.

– Keep holding the wrists and start escaping your hips (very important to hold the wrists to avoid him going for foot locks on you). Place your right foot on his hip to help your hips move better.

– After you?ve created enough space, place both feet in between his legs. Keep your knees apart and now you have what we call “hooks”.

– Release his wrist and sit all the way up, placing your head into his chest and locking you hands around his back. Remember to keep your knees apart and slide your butt as deep as you can to your opponent.

– Use backwards momentum with the help of your hooks to lift him into the air and create some space. You have just created enough room under your opponent to make him vulnerable to sweeps and foot locks /heel hooks.

– Pick a side and straighten one of your legs underneath him. There should be enough space to sneak in one of the legs. Keep one of the hooks in at all times.

– This is a more detailed picture of the position. I have one hook in and the other leg is all the way through.

– The first step is to place my right hand under his arm pit and push him away in that direction. That?s going to make him expose his leg even more. After I create enough space I am going to use my left leg to secure the leg that I am attacking. Also look at my left hand holding his ankle that is going to give me a little better hold on the position and will keep my opponent from trying to escape.

– I finally get my foot all the way in and I still have the hand under the arm pit keeping the distance. My hook is still strongly controlling him.

- Different Angle

– Time to submit your opponent. Wrap your left arm around his ankle and start turning your back to the ceiling to increase the pressure. Make sure your left leg is on his upper abdomen pushing him away while anticipating him attacking your foot or trying to roll to top position.

– Different angle. Watch my arm position, I have my left arm all the way around his ankle holding my left bicep and my right palm is going back pushing his leg. It looks almost like the rear naked choke but on the leg.

- It also gives you a great heel hook finish. My left hand goes around his ankle. Lock hand with hand (butterfly grip) and pressure his ankle to the right until he taps.
